Hey guys. So rain, hail or shine I do my Facebook lives, as you know and tonight I’m at the gala dinner awards evening masquerade party for the Professional Speakers Association convention 2020, where I am at.
So why am I talking about makeup and motivation? Well, because I’ve got make up on. [inaudible 00:00:21] I forgot to bring a mask, so I had one painted on. Why not? As you do. What I really want to actually talk about is motivation and being at these kinds of events. So we’ve just seen these incredible group of people go up and be awarded as CSPs, which is a certified speaking professional, which is, an aim of mine. What makes it special is they have to meet certain income requirements over a period of years. They also have to have footage of their talks, not judged, but assessed by a special board who allow these people to be CSPs.
And there’s not many of them in the world. So as I sit there tonight, watching these people go up and thank the people that have helped them get there, one of the most common elements they all did was the thanking of the motivation they got from being in this group of people. The motivation they got from coming to conventions like this, the inspiration they got from working with people that are professional speakers, the help, the comradery, the leg up that anybody in a supportive industry gives to others in those industries. Because there’s no point being jealous. There’s no point going, “I’m not going to help the other guy get better because then I’m not going to be as good.” Because it’s a big bloody world. It’s a big enough world for everybody to be doing what they want to be doing. It’s a big enough world for there to be a thousand CSPs, doing awesome work around the world, especially in turbulent times because some of us have messages that help make people feel better.
And what’s interesting being here this week is for so many people here, their work life for the next couple of months has been decimated because of the C word. So many gigs canceled, so many events canceled, conferences canceled, tours canceled. You can’t fly in and out of so many places. And yet they are all still so happy and motivated and wanting to help all of us newbies here going like, “This is what you need to do. Do the work. Be consistent.” And thank you guys for joining me on this consistency journey that I’ve been doing of doing these lives. Because as you know, as I’ve talked about, that was an issue for me.
So make up a motivation and my end message for that bit tonight is get out there to be amongst the people that motivate you. Honestly, if you’re hanging around in a pool of people that are swimming around in their lives, not being happy and not wanting to give you a hand and vice versa, you will need to give them a hand, get out of that fold. Go join an incredible group of something, whatever your interest is. Whether you’re a lumberjack or a cobbler or a speaker, get amongst the people that will help you get to where you want to go, because they want to see you shine.
